The Reading Royals have acquired goaltender Ian Shane from the Kansas City Mavericks in exchange for future considerations. Shane, 25, has a 2-4-1 record with a 2.51 GAA, and .892SV% in eight games this season with the Mavericks. This move comes after the Royals traded Vinnie Purpura to the Savannah Ghost Pirates last week. In their last game vs Adirondack Thunder, Reading signed Brandon Kasel as their EBUG after Yaniv Perets got called up. This now gives the Royals three goaltenders on their roster. I expect Shane to play a big role for the Royals if/when the ECHL season resumes.
The Mannhattan Beach, California, native made his ECHL debut at the end of last season going 3-0-2 with a 2.54 GAA, .913SV%, and one shutout in five games with the Norfolk Admirals. Prior to his time with the Admirals, he spent four years at the NCAA level with Cornell. During his time with Cornell, he posted a 66-32-16 record along with a 1.85 SV%, .917SV%, and 14 shutouts in 118 games. His best numbers came in his final two seasons as Cornell won back to back ECAC Champions. In 2014, he was named Goaltender of the Year, Ivy League Player of the Year, and nominated for the Hobey Baker . During his final season in the NCAA, he was named the ECAC Tournament MVP.
Junior Career
Shane spent two seasons at the junior level playing in the USHL and NAHL. In 28 games in the USHL with the Chicago Steel, he put up a 20-5-3 record with a 3.56 GAA, .873SV%, and one shutout. At the NAHL level, he had an 8-6-1 record with a 2.60 GAA and 9.14SV% in 16 games with the Bismark Bobcats. Shane also appeared in three playoff games with the Bobcats.
