The best part of an artist taking a hiatus is the excitement that is paired with their comeback release. Ella Mai gifted fans with a surprise announcement that she’s releasing new music, and the wait isn’t long as the single is set to arrive this Friday (Aug. 29).
“TELL HER my new single will be all yours THIS friday,” she wrote on Instagram. “tell a friend to tell a friend, and her too!”
The tasteful cover features the R&B talent sitting on a tile floor and looking up into the camera lens. She rocks a grey trench coat, tie, and heeled boots as her hair and makeup complement her look. Laid on the floor next to her is a bright yellow telephone, and above her head is “Ella Mai – Tell Her” written in script.

“Tell Her” marks the official start of the 30-year-old’s album rollout, as she previously confirmed all the way back in April that the project was done. On the last slide of an IG carousel that month, she included a brief clip of her saying, “I just wanna have fun and my album is done!”
Mai has been relatively quiet on the music front, making the recent announcement all the more exciting. Her last release was in November 2024 in the form of a three-song EP. Titled 3, the short and sweet project served as a solid check-in with her supporters, with the acoustic love song “Little Things” rising as a favorite in particular.
The English songstress had her breakout year in 2018 with her massive hit “Boo’d Up,” which originally appeared on her READY project released a few months prior. Since then, she’s shared two albums, Ella Mai in 2018 and Heart on My Sleeve 2022, and garnered successful hits like “Trip,” “Shot Clock,” and “Naked.” Over the last few years, Mai shifted her focus on her personal life, entering a long-term relationship with NBA star Jayson Tatum and having her first child with him in 2024.
