Elton John was spotted leaving Maxfield in West Hollywood alongside his husband David Furnish and a bodyguard, as the legendary performer appeared to rely on support during a recent daytime outing.
The 79-year-old singer kept things casual for the shopping trip, wearing a tracksuit paired with his signature tinted glasses. As he made his way toward the car, he appeared to lean on Furnish, who stayed close by his side. The couple was also joined by assistants, who helped guide and support John as they exited the Hollywood store.
“He’s great. He’s battling on. He’s keeping busy and moving forward,” Furnish told Variety during an interview ahead of the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party.
Furnish added that John has been focusing more on family life in recent months. “He’s happy being at home as a family with our sons,” he said, referring to their children, Zachary, 15, and Elijah, 13. “That’s why he came off the road. We really love parenting, we love our family, and we love being together, and that’s everything for us.”
John and Furnish have been together for decades, entering a civil union in 2005 before marrying in December 2014 on their ninth anniversary. They later welcomed their two sons via surrogacy in 2010 and 2013.
Furnish’s comments follow a difficult period for John, who has been open about his health struggles. In November 2025, the singer revealed that losing sight in his right eye after an infection had significantly impacted his daily life.
“Because I lost my right eye and my left eye’s not so good, the last 15 months have been challenging for me because I haven’t been able to see anything, watch anything, read anything,” John said at the time.
The Your Song performer contracted the infection while vacationing in France in the summer of 2024, which affected both of his eyes. Despite the setback, he has remained optimistic.
“I’ve had the most incredible life, and there is hope,” he said. “I’ve just gotta be patient that someday science will help me with this one. Once they help me with this one, I’ll be fine.”
John has also spoken candidly about the broader toll of his health journey. During the New York Film Festival premiere of Elton John: Never Too Late, he shared, “To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left. I don’t have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate.”
“I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee. In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip. But I’m still here,” he added. “And I can’t thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me. I want to thank David and Zachary and Elijah for making me the happiest man in the world.”
