Emma Heming Willis stepped out publicly for the first time Thursday following widespread criticism over her decision to place husband Bruce Willis in a separate care home for his ongoing dementia treatment.
The 47-year-old model was photographed arriving at Fancies Nails in Santa Monica, where she received a morning pedicure.
She wore an NY hat, a white shirt, jeans, and a pair of neon green sandals, along with a white metal water bottle, following her saying she in “in awe” of her husband.
The controversy stems from news that Bruce, 70, now lives in a one-story residence with 24-hour professional care.
Emma previously described the move as “one of the hardest decisions” she’s ever made, calling it necessary for his safety and well-being.
“This is what caregivers are up against, judgment from others,” she said in response to the backlash.
Critics accused her of “getting rid of the inconvenience.”
“My thoughts are WHY MOVE HIM TO A SEPARATE HOUSE???? what happened to in sickness and in health, till death part????? After he was done provide a Hollywood lifestyle for the family his wife signs off on isolating him from the rest of the family at his lowest point????” One person wrote on X.
Another said,”My father died of dementia never moved into a nursing/home care and we do not have the money Bruce has. Why is his family abandoning him like this? Disgusting.”
Others, though, including Demi Moore, have defended Emma’s handling of the situation as “masterful.”
The Thursday sighting marked the first time Emma had been seen publicly since the backlash erupted, following the broadcast of her interview on Emma and Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey, which aired as part of an ABC News special.
“Early on, I was very isolated. I was too scared to say anything to anyone. I was in so much sadness and darkness for so long,” Emma previously told PEOPLE.

“I think for most [people], by the time you get to a diagnosis, you are already in that role.”
She noted,”There was relief in understanding, ‘Oh, okay, this wasn’t my husband, it was that this disease was taking parts of his brain.'”
Emma also spoke about finding peace in her day-to-day work.
“While the grief and sadness and trauma is here all the time, I have learned it’s okay for me to also enjoy our life. Bruce would want that for me and for our kids, to not wallow in the sadness of it, but also rise to it,” she said.
