EXHIBITIONS

Charter’s changes

“Making Amends,” an exhibition exploring the the history of all 27 changes that have been made to the Constitution of the United States throughout its 238-year history, opens Tuesday at the Clinton Presidential Center, 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock.

The special collection from the National Archives exhibition will be up through July 26; through April 12, it will include the 1782 Treaty of Paris; the original design for the Great Seal of the United States (also 1782); Congressional resolutions proposing the Bill of Rights and the 13th, 14th and 26th Amendments; the Voting Rights Act of 1965; U.S. Supreme Court decisions — 1896’s Plessey v. Ferguson and 1954’s Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas; and President Eisenhower’s executive order federalizing troops to aid in desegregating Little Rock Central High School.

Artifacts on display will include planning and strategy documents, letters, photos and artwork depicting events associated with the amendments, as well as memorabilia from related time periods, items from popular culture and three-dimensional pieces “that enhance the exhibition’s narrative and make it relevant for contemporary visitors,” according to a news release. Visit clintonpresidentialcenter.org/makingamends.

Alongside “Making Amends,” until March 26, the center will display “American Revolution Experience,” a pop-up exhibition that connects modern audiences with the people and places that shaped the birth of the nation. It’s a collaboration between the American Battlefield Trust and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

‘Death of Kings’

It’s part of a three-day residency Tuesday-Thursday in which Grimes, a Little Rock native who is currently managing artistic director at Market House Theatre in Paducah, Ky., will meet with students in theater and theater history classes and conduct a workshop for veterans. Preservation webinar

Emily Bartz, station archaeologist for the Arkansas Archeological Survey’s research station at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, will lead a Women in Preservation webinar via Zoom for Preserve Arkansas at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Bartz holds a doctorate in anthropology from the University of Florida, a master of science degree from Illinois State University and a bachelor of science degree from Grand Valley State University. She has conducted fieldwork and research across the eastern and central United States, including Michigan, Illinois, Florida and Arkansas.

Her work focuses on Archaic and Woodland period subsistence practices, pottery and residue analysis and experimental archaeology; her recent research combines chemical and experimental methods to better understand the uses and meanings of North America’s earliest pottery and what it reveals about ancient food traditions.

Math on Main

SoMa 501, a nonprofit that promotes and enhances economic development, public relations, historic integrity and quality of life for the citizens of Little Rock’s South Main neighborhood, is launching Math on Main, a yearlong public art and community learning series that will transform Main Street south of Interstate 630 “into a walkable outdoor math experience through art, music, food and permanent street installations,” according to a news release.

Part of the Simons Foundation’s Infinite Sums national initiative, it will feature three free public events in 2026, each unveiling a permanent, math-inspired crosswalk or mural along Main Street, forming the Math Path on Main, “a lasting public art corridor designed to invite curiosity, slow traffic, and encourage people to walk and gather in the neighborhood.”

On March 14, aka Pi Day, Math on Main will unveil a Pi-themed crosswalk. The Saturday event will include DJ for a Day, teaching math and music theory; a Big Bubble Blast; activities for children under 10; and free circle-shaped foods, including pies, pizzas and cookies.

The unveiling of an infinity-themed crosswalk will take place on Infinity Day, Aug. 8, featuring a community wedding and vow-renewal ceremony and loop-shaped foods.

And for a Fibonacci Friendsgiving on Fibonacci Day, Nov. 23, a communal table will stretch along Main Street for a free public meal highlighting spiral-shaped foods and natural Fibonacci patterns. Community members will help install a kinetic, wind-activated mural inspired by the Fibonacci sequence to create a permanent public artwork that moves with the environment.

All events are free and open to the public. Math on Main is part of a partnership with Annie Childers and the faculty and students of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock mathematics department.
