EXCLUSIVE: Amid a continued effort to expand its international footprint, Christian Rodriguez’s AAO Entertainment has signed Ernest Gold, co-creator and showrunner of Austria’s first original Prime Video series, Beasts Like Us.
The winner of a 2025 Grimme Award, Beasts Like Us is an eight-episode horror-comedy, co-written and led by Gold, that takes place in a Vienna where humans coexist with monsters including vampires, zombies, and demons. Blending genre-bending humor with social satire, the show examines modern life, dating, and identity through an inventive lens. Check out a trailer here.
A Fulbright Scholar and graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Gold’s previous work has screened and earned awards at major festivals including Cannes, Tribeca, and the New Hampshire Film Festival. With over 15 years of experience across the U.S. and Austrian film industries, he recently completed the writers’ room for an upcoming international historical/horror co-production and is currently adapting an American stage play into a 1930s gangster dramedy series.
