Alanna Ubach on filming ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 with Sydney Sweeney

Alanna Ubach, who plays Sydney Sweeney’s mom in HBO’s “Euphoria,” shares her favorite memory from making Season 3.

After four years of waiting, the iconic and highly beloved ‘Euphoria’ will return to our screens this weekend.

The HBO teen drama, created and written by Sam Levinson, will premiere its much-anticipated third season on Sunday, April 12. Its star-studded cast includes Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie and Hunter Schafer.

Season 3 picks up five years after the events of Season 2, where the main characters are now out of high school and take on life as twentysomethings. Zendaya‘s Rue works as an indentured servant for drug dealer Laurie (Martha Kelly), while Cassie (Sweeney) and Nate (Elordi) navigate serious coupledom with their engagement.

Here’s what to know about Season 3 of Euphoria, how to watch and its New York connection.

When does Season 3 air?

Episode one of the Emmy Award-winning HBO drama, ‘Euphoria,’ premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max. New episodes will premiere weekly in that time slot until the May 31 season finale.

‘Euphoria’ episode schedule

Season 3 will have eight episodes in total, like the show’s previous two seasons. Here is the episode schedule:

  • Episode 1: April 12
  • Episode 2: April 19
  • Episode 3: April 26
  • Episode 4: May 3
  • Episode 5: May 10
  • Episode 6: May 17
  • Episode 7: May 27
  • Episode 8: May 31

Sam Levinson dedicates new season to Eric Dane, Angus Cloud and Kevin Turen

In the years following season two of Euphoria, the show lost two actors and one producer.

During the Season 3 premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre on Tuesday, Levinson addressed the crowd before the screening to announce he was dedicating the season to actors Eric Dane, Angus Cloud and the late ‘Euphoria’ producer Kevin Turen.

Dane, who died Thursday, Feb. 19, following a battle with ALS, will be in the upcoming season of the show. Despite his illness, Dane remained committed to his work, and he returned to production last April to play his character Cal Jacobs, a real-estate businessman and closeted bisexual father of Elordi’s Nate Jacobs.

Cloud, who played Fezco- a fan favorite- died in July 2023 from an accidental drug overdose. He was 25-years-old.

On the carpet at the Season 3 premiere, Levinson got emotional speaking about Cloud to Entertainment Tonight.

“I fought hard to keep him clean while he was here,” Levinson said. “I figured if I couldn’t keep him alive in life, I can keep him alive in this show, and I think he would be proud,”

Turen, a longtime Hollywood producer, died in November 2023 at 44-years-old from multiple heart issues, according to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner.

Angus Cloud discovered in NYC

In 2019, Angus Cloud sat down with GQ to explain his unique casting story for the hit show.

Cloud said he was walking down a Manhattan street in New York, though he told GQ he couldn’t remember which one, when a casting director stopped him and asked for his phone number.

“I was confused and I didn’t want to give her my phone number,” he said in the GQ article. “I thought it was a scam.”

Though Cloud was originally from Oakland, California, he told GQ that he moved to New York “on a whim” two years before the encounter because he wanted to visit his friends out East and never ended up buying a return flight. He ended up moving to LA once he was cast in the series.

According to GQ, Cloud attended Oakland School for the Arts, where his costar Zendaya once studied, but his experience was with technical theater, building sets and working on stage lighting. He had no acting experience before filming the show.

This one chance encounter on a New York street brought Cloud to the forefront, where he and his character Fez captured the hearts of all ‘Euphoria’ fans.
