Evan Whikehart named General Manager, North America at IDOL, as Paris-headquartered indie says its annual revenue topped $50m globally last year

IDOL, the Paris-headquartered independent distributor, has appointed Evan Whikehart as its new General Manager – North America.

Whikehart joins from Secretly Distribution, where he built the company’s Label & Shared Services division.

He will lead IDOL‘s operations across North America and LATAM, overseeing a regional network that includes labels Mexican Summer, Moderna Records and HighNote Records, alongside artists TOKiMONSTA, Erick the Architect (Flatbush Zombies) and The Presidents of the United States of America.

The appointment comes as IDOL says its global revenue surpassed $50 million for the first time last year, with its North American consumption growing by 25% over the past five years.

The region now accounts for nearly a third of the company’s global revenue, according to IDOL.

Based in Brooklyn, Whikehart will also help roll out D2C services in the US – expected to launch in Q3 2026 – bringing expertise in physical distribution to expand that side of the business.

Through third-party partnerships, IDOL will build clients’ online stores and manage physical music and merchandise sales.

“I have long admired IDOL‘s patient and fully independent approach to building meaningful relationships and supporting long-term label and artist development.”

“I have long admired IDOL‘s patient and fully independent approach to building meaningful relationships and supporting long-term label and artist development,” said Whikehart.

“I am incredibly excited to join the team and look forward to providing our partners with the highest standard of service across every stage of their campaigns.”

Pascal Bittard, founder and President at IDOL, added: “Evan brings a rare dual perspective from both the label and distribution sides that will help IDOL expand our operations across North America and LATAM.

“But beyond his impressive track record, he understands our values as a truly independent organization.”

Whikehart brings two decades of experience in independent music.

At Secretly Distribution, he built the Label & Shared Services division from the ground up, directing campaigns from 2020 onwards for artists including Hayley Williams, Sufjan Stevens, Santigold, The War on Drugs, Beirut and Crumb, while also developing B2B partnerships including A24 Music.

Prior to that role, he was appointed as Project Manager at Secretly Group in 2015, where he managed Grammy-nominated campaigns for artists on the Dead Oceans, Jagjaguwar and Secretly Canadian rosters, including Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridgers and Mitski.

IDOL‘s appointment of Whikehart is the latest step in a sustained push into the US market.

In March 2024, the company named Mandy Freebairn as US Label Manager and signed distribution deals with Le Plan Recordings and Old Soul Music.

Later that year, IDOL inked a global distribution and marketing deal with Berlin-based City Slang.

The company says it has pursued its growth without major label backing or outside investment, relying instead on organic, self-funded expansion.

IDOL founder Bittard wrote in an MBW op-ed in February about the risks of excessive venture capital and private equity investment in the music business, arguing that true independence allows companies to take a long-term, sustainable approach in the interests of artists and labels.

IDOL‘s ongoing growth is expected to see its US team expand from 5 to 15 staff over the next 3–5 years, supported by the company’s 60-strong central operation in Paris.

IDOL has been nominated for Distributor of the Year at the A2IM Libera Awards in June, while its label partner Mexican Summer has earned four separate nominations, including Label of the Year (6–14 employees).
