Taylor Swift’s 12th studio album dropped at midnight last night, revealing itself to be as sparkly and dynamic as the album art that proceeded it. And, full of just as many designer references.
Ahead, we break down all the fashion labels behind The Life of a Showgirl.
Bob Mackie
What would a showgirl be without Bob Mackie? The renowned costumier, known for his massive headdresses, bedazzled bras, and work on Vegas shows, was the brain behind several vintage and custom looks for Swift’s album—including the crystallized set worn on a cover variant, pulled directly from the Jubilee! show.
The Blonds
Where would one acquire a larger than life gemstone? A flame-inspired bodysuit? The Blonds, of course. Swift and stylist Joseph Cassel pulled from the label’s past three Autumn/Winter collections for album cover variants.
Area
The album cover look! The New York-based brand knows a thing or two about sparkles and glitter, and for Swift’s official cover, she picked out a crystal dress from their Spring Couture line.
Kelsey Randall
One of the smaller designers Swift worked with for the album art, Kelsey Randall created a custom chainmail dress for the occasion. She took to Instagram to express her gratitude, calling Swift her favorite artist.
David Koma
The first designer spotted on Swift’s press tour, Koma crafted a LBD that, though not a custom, seemed especially made for the event. Simple and elegant with a built in crystallized necklace, it balanced her typical personal style with a bit of showgirl magic. Later, she stepped into BBC Radio 1 with a crystal-embellished bodysuit and miniskirt from the label.
Annie’s Ibiza
In Swift’s latest Instagram drop—full of sparkles and velvet galore—the artist donned a dress as starry as she is. With off the shoulder sleeves and a structured bodice, Swift paired the twinkling look with dazzling Lorraine Schwartz earrings and a striking headpiece.
Gucci
“I like my ‘em cloaked in Gucci and in scandal,” Swift sings on “CANCELLED!,” a track about sticking by friends amidst media backlash. The artist kept true to her word, wearing a sparkly logo miniskirt from the designer while doing radio press for the album.
Cartier
“Babe, I would trade the Cartier for someone to trust… just kidding,” Swift sings on her track “Elizabeth Taylor.” Turns out, she didn’t have to. Showing up for radio press, she donned her Cartier love bracelet and watch.
