Sex and the City alum Jason Lewis is revealing what he has been up to since stepping out of the spotlight — writing a nine-book fantasy series.
Lewis, 54, revealed his bookish ambitions in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on Thursday, May 28. “I chose to start at the end,” the actor told the outlet from his home in Costa Rica, adding that the series falls in the Lord of the Rings vein of “epic fantasy.”
“It’s not a lecture on physics,” he explained to THR, while noting that the books will reference real scientific phenomena. “It’s magic.”
The former model and actor, who once starred as Samantha Jones’ (Kim Cattrall) much-younger boyfriend who supported her through her cancer journey on Sex and the City, told THR that he traded Hollywood for a quiet life in Costa Rica, where he devotes time to writing every day, “usually in two-hour bursts, aiming for between 1,000 and 2,000 words daily.”
“The first one’s an idealistic tale,” Lewis told the outlet. “The second one is when good intentions go terrible. You become the monster so the monster can’t hurt you. And the last one is a redemption story.”
He told the outlet that while he has not found a publisher yet, he is “on the fourth draft of book seven, which will serve as the entry point into the larger saga,” reflecting themes of “idealism, corruption and the long road back from both.”
Lewis explained that he intends to incorporate physics into the books, though he does not have a background in science, and that he has outlined “three trilogies.”
“I’ve paid attention to it over the years,” Lewis told the outlet about the scientific discipline. “I like looking in on what quantum theory is doing and [Richard] Feynman had a really interesting theory that all of reality is just a single electron moving through spacetime at a bunch of different convergences. That’s something I kind of incorporated into the books. Or it’s kind of like string theory, where energy, in its ordering, becomes matter.”
When asked why he chose to “start at the end” by writing book seven, he explained that “it’s a triptych.”

“There are arguments in each one in terms of the same themes of power and agency and wielding that,” Lewis added. “But I chose to start at the end.”
On May 21, the former actor resurfaced on Instagram with a new video message, marking his first post after what he described as three years of being “quiet.”
“After three years, it was time,” Lewis captioned the video.

In the clip, the actor explained that his absence was tied to a creative project that required his full attention.
“I went quiet. Not because I have nothing to say, but because I had something to do,” Lewis said in the video. “The kind of creative work that doesn’t leave room for much else, and I made my peace with that.”
“It’s the kind of work that needs to find its people, though,” he continued. “I’m still in it, but I am far enough along now that it felt like it was time to resurface and share what I’ve been doing. More to come.”
