1. ‘Hooray for Hollywood’ concert in Cocoa Beach
Space Coast Symphony Orchestra presents a concert of Hollywood music at Riverside Presbyterian Church, 3400 N. Atlantic Ave., Cocoa Beach, on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. Edited film clips on the big screen will complement some of the most famous scores written for the movies, including “The Witches of Eastwick,” “Back to the Future,” “The Godfather,” “Cinema Paradiso” and more. 2. ‘The Book of Mormon’ at the King Center
The King Center, 3865 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, presents the Broadway touring production of “The Book of Mormon” on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 15 and 16. This irreverent musical comedy by “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone follows two inexperienced missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as they attempt to preach the faith to the inhabitants of a remote Ugandan village. 3. Baroque choral concert in Melbourne
The Brevard Community Chorus, joined by members of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, will present two Baroque masterpieces, Bach’s “Magnificat” and Handel’s “Dixit Dominus,” on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the King Center, 3865 Wickham Road, Melbourne. 4. Holiday tour of historic homes
Museums of Brevard offers holiday tours of eight historic homes throughout the county, taking place Dec. 12-14 and 19-21. The tour showcases the architectural styles of the late 19th and early- to mid-20th century, along with holiday decor. The homes include Pritchard House, Cape Canaveral Lighthouse, Sams House, Field Manor Homestead, Lawndale House, Rossetter House, Green Gables and Bensen House. Each $40 ticket allows access to four of the eight properties, and entry to the other homes may be purchased. Some properties require reservations. 5. Michelle Mailhot in concert on Merritt Island
The Space Coast Jazz Society presents Michelle Mailhot and Friends in concert at the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center, Gray Hall, 400 S. Sykes Creek Pkwy., Merritt Island, on Sunday, Dec. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. Jazz vocalist Michelle Mailhot appears regularly at premier jazz venues, has sung with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dr. Phillips Jazz Orchestra, and is the regular featured singer with the Blue Bamboo Big Band. 6. Songwriter Showcase on Merritt Island
The Songwriter Showcase takes place on the second Saturday of every month from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Merritt Island Public Library’s Carlton-Taylor Auditorium, 1195 N. Courtenay Pkwy. Presented by Sharon Osuna, Steve Hodak and Central Florida Folk, the concerts mix songwriters from Brevard and beyond with 15-minute sets of original songs. Admission is free. 8. Celebration of civil rights pioneers in Mims
The Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Cultural Center and Museum, 2180 Freedom Ave., Mims, hosts a day of remembrance, honor and celebration from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 15. As part of the event, the West Volusia NAACP will present the museum with the official State of Florida Proclamation designating Dec. 15th as “Harry Tyson Moore and Harriette Vyda Simms Moore Day.” The event will also celebrate community leaders and advocates including James Minus, Michael Williams, Leroy Smith and Alberta Wilson. 9. Wreaths Across America event in Eau Gallie
The Abigail Wright Chamberlain DAR Chapter, working with Wreaths Across America, will honor the memories of service men and women who rest at Eau Gallie Cemetery. The event will be held at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, at the cemetery, where many of the founders of Melbourne and Eau Gallie are buried. The Eau Gallie High School JROTC unit will present the colors at 8:30 a.m., followed by a short service conducted by chapter chaplain Darice Lawson. Chapter members and family, as well as members of the community, will place wreaths on all the graves of departed heroes.
10. Vendor fair in Palm Bay
The Greater Palm Bay Senior Activity Center, 1275 Culver Drive NE, Palm Bay, will have a vendor fair on Sunday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will include local artisans, baked goods, plants, home services, food trucks and more. Admission is free. Call 321-724-1338.
