Ex-Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson dubbed the royal family’s ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ after scandals

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson‘s relationship is a roller coaster.

According to author Andrew Lownie, the former married couple enabled each other’s equally mischievous behavior even after their romance ended in 1992.

“The reason that they’ve stayed together is a professional business relationship,” the journalist told Fox News Digital.

“I describe them as Bonnie and Clyde,” Lownie said, referring to the infamous criminal pair.

“He was her calling card for money and I think maybe he had a sentimental loyalty to her,” he claimed.

Despite their divorce in 1996, the former Duke and Duchess of York lived together in Windsor for years.

In 2025, Ferguson and Andrew were stripped of their titles and evicted from Royal Lodge over their friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.

“She [Ferguson], of course, was one of the last people to remain loyal to him and supportive of him. And I think he felt grateful for that,” the biographer noted.

Lownie claimed that even when the former pair were together, they were seeing other people.

“He’s sort of a playboy, but he also likes the comfort of being a married man with a family,” the reporter said to the publication.

“So, he got the best of both worlds — at least the impression that they were a happy family while still being totally independent,” Lownie alleged.

The strange dynamic between Sarah and Andrew led them to live together in the same home for years after their split.

“They lived in a very big house, so they were at opposite ends,” Lownie pointed out.

“She hung in there because he was a member of the royal family,” he claimed.

While the father of two was moved to Sandringham, his former spouse reportedly doesn’t know where she’ll land. However, the royal expert has a theory of where she might go.

“In Britain, neither Sarah nor Andrew will be socially accepted again, whatever they try to do or wherever they go. But in the Middle East, no one will care about what they have got up to [with Epstein],” Lownie told Daily Mail.

“There are people there — royalty, politicians and business types — whom Sarah can quite happily sponge off and who will be happy to bankroll both of them,” he added.

“These types of people in the Middle East simply couldn’t care less what Sarah has done,” the writer said.

Although many would think Sarah and Andrew would want to give each other space, commentator Ingrid Seward believes otherwise.

“I think she is in contact with Andrew and I don’t think she’d want to leave him high and dry,” the author told The Mirror.

“Also, he is the father of her children. And to him, she’s the mother of the children,” she said, referencing Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

“He’s always seen her like that. He always saw her as the mother of his children and therefore she was the most important woman in his life, so of course she’s in contact with him,” the journalist noted.
