According to a new report, the ex-Prince Andrew may be “smuggled” into a Royal Family funeral. The funeral of Lady Pamela Hicks will take place on Saturday after she died at the age of 97. However, it poses a tricky problem as King Charles’ official birthday parade, Trooping the Colour, is scheduled for the same day. Hence, there are chances that ex-royal Prince Andrew could make a quiet appearance at the funeral without attracting any media attention.
Ex-Prince Andrew’s attendance at Royal Family funeral in doubt
The ex-Prince Andrew could possibly attend the royal funeral of Lady Pamela Hicks. As per The Scottish Daily Express, the funeral of Lady Pamela Hicks is due to take place on Saturday.
However, it has put King Charles in a major predicament as his official birthday parade, Trooping the Colour, will take place on the same day. All the working royals will be expected to attend the official event.
Notably, the ex-Prince Andrew has been barred from attending any official royal event. Hence, it is speculated that he might represent the Royal Family and quietly attend on behalf of the family at Brightwell Baldwin Church in Oxfordshire.
According to the Daily Mail’s Ephraim Hardcastle column: “My source whispers that the Mountbattens are seeking ‘guidance’ from the Palace on whether or not AMW should be on the guest list. If he is allowed at what will be a private family occasion, he is likely to be smuggled in via a side door to prevent a repeat of his gurning grandstanding at last year’s funeral of the Duchess of Kent.”
Interestingly, all the royals, including the disgraced ex-Prince Andrew, attended the funeral of Lady Pamela’s sister, Patricia, back in 2017. King Charles is also expected to make a late appearance at the funeral, as she shared a close bond with his late mother, Queen Elizabeth.
Previously, the ex-Prince Andrew was banned from attending his nephew Peter Phillips‘ wedding in June. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who remains under investigation following his February arrest, was reportedly not invited to the wedding ceremony. However, his daughters, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, reportedly attended the wedding (via The Sun).
