Exclusive – Rajat Verma on his charming, flirtatious role; says ‘Playing Virat in Itti Si Khushi was challenging’

Actor Rajat Verma, who has been part of popular television shows like Beyhadh 2, Dahej Daasi, Ishq Par Zor Nahi, Jamuniya, is currently seen in Itti Si Khushi. The actor says that he wanted to be on board with the show as soon as he got to know about it.When asked how he came on board for Itti Si Khushi, Rajat revealed, “I came to know about the show way back when I was doing Dahej Daasi. When I got free from Dahej Daasi, then I got to know about the show. But at that time I had already signed this contract, the show Jamuniya, which was my second show, so I couldn’t give my audition for Itni Si Khushi. But I wanted to do it because it was a Sony show and I have an old connection with the channel. My first show in Mumbai was with the same channel and it really did very well for me, and then my second show was also with them. So I was like I want to work more with thema again and then the contract happened with Jamuniya. But then luckily Jamuniya got off air after 45 days.”He added, “After two months I came to know these guys reached out to me again, the casting is being done for the show and the audience are happening, so I did give an audition and then talks were also going on for some other show. So a contract was happening for both the shows but I was delaying things because I wanted this Itni Si Khushi to happen. And delay was happening from the production side as well. And this started before that and one day before the promo to come out I had just signed the contract and that’s how I became a part of the show. And I loved the script and Sony has this show, the way they make their shows, their shows format, it’s very realistic, it’s very relatable and they portray very complex relations. They show very complex relations very relatively. So I really wanted to be a part of it and eventually everything went and I’m a part of it now.”Describing his character Virat, Rajat said, “Virat is a character who is very lovable and a very jolly kind of a person. And he has this mysterious side also in him. In Anvita’s life, he is like an escape. As Anvita’s life is a huge struggle, that she doesn’t get time for herself, she is a motherly figure for her siblings so she is unable to take care of herself. So in her life Virat comes in like an escape, who is calm in the chaos in her life, who appreciates her. He makes her feel loved and shows her how to live for herself. Virat comes into Anvita’s life like a ray of hope.”Talking about the challenges of playing Virat, Rajat explained, “The challenge was only this, Virat is very charming and he is very flirtatious and he knows how to woo a girl. So that was quite a challenge for me to match that charm, because I am too shy in person, in my real life. So to get that attitude of flirting and things. So that was challenging a bit about struggle. But it came out originally afterwards. Writers are doing a great job so half of the work is done there only and so I’m just blessed we have these good writers and director and the whole team. They are very good.”
