In a twist of fate,Simon Cowell was the one at the center of attention during his recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Prior to sitting down to chat with the talk show host—who rose to fame as a finalist on American Idol in 2004, where Cowell served as a judge—the reality TV star had to walk through Hudson’s famed “Spirit Tunnel.”
The 65-year-old made his way through the tunnel, a recurring backstage ritual for show guests, surrounded by Hudson’s crew, as they clapped and sang a welcoming song to hype him up.
Though other celebrities have garnered attention with their impressive dance moves during the now-viral segment, Cowell kept it low-key, laughing shyly and clapping his hands, which seemed to form into a heart sign.
A handful of fans immediately made the same observation in the comments, with one exclaiming, “I’ve never seen that man not sitting down. 😮.”
“This is my first time seeing him standing up. Like I’ve only ever seen him sitting behind a table,” another echoed, with another adding, “It’s so crazy to see him standing and walking lol I’ve only ever seen him sitting behind a desk.”
“I’ve NEVER seen Simon so nervous! 😂😂😂,” one comment pointed out, as another underscored, “I think we just seen Simon Cowell nervous for the first time in history.”
Plenty of fans jumped in to defend his tunnel walk, with one fan reminding, “Some people are socially awkward it’s okay… 🙂”
“Please be kind everyone..he’s smiling and happy to be there. Not everyone knows how to dance or have big personalities. His way is just fine.. 😊🙏🏽,” another explained.
While a handful of comments wondered about his health, a few pointed out that Cowell “suffered significant injuries” from “bike accidents.” The America’s Got Talent judge broke his back and underwent major surgery in 2020, after falling off his e-bike, per Hello!
“It could have been a lot worse. When I saw the X-ray, I really nearly smashed my spine to pieces, so I literally wouldn’t have been able to walk,” he told Extra in 2021 of the accident, during which he broke his arm and three vertebrae, and needed a steel rod inserted in his back.
In the comments of his recent appearance, others took a more comical approach, referencing his stern and often critical responses to contestants on competition shows: “I didn’t expect him to clap, let alone smile and comment.”
As for Parade, we’re echoing Hudson’s encouraging message to the “GOAT”: “Get it Simon !!!!!”
