I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here is back on our screens, and after two decades of the series it is safe to say that the format is very recognisable. Since it first began in 2002, many elements of the show have been switched up, and this year ITV bosses are hoping the new series will be “tough and gruelling” for participants.
Last night, Sunday, November 16, audiences saw this year’s celebs head to the jungle, with the likes of Martin Kemp, Aitch, Jack Osbourne and Alex Scott included in the line up. Following the usual format, the cast were split in two teams to complete challenges.
However, fans of the show were frustrated with just how similar this year’s format is to past series. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter
During the debut episode, half of the cast, including Aitch, Eddie Kadi, Kelly Brook , Shona McCarty and Martin Kemp had to jump out of a helicopter and skydive onto a stunning beach on Australia’s Gold Coast.
The remaining contestants, including Jack Osbourne, Angry Ginge, Ruby Wax, Lisa Riley and Alex Scott had to take part in a challenge which involved snakes and bugs.
Fans of the show took to social media to share their frustration that the celebs were acting shocked that they would be jumping out of a helicopter, as it been a common first challenge in the history of I’m a Celebrity…

One social media user shared a meme of someone pretending to be shocked, saying: “The celebs when they are told they have to jump out the helicopter even though it happens every year.”
Another added: “Really helicopter jumps again?? Surely you can think of something better after all these years…'”
One person said: “Watching five people jump out of a helicopter ever year does get a bit stale doesn’t it…”
A sarcastic fan of the show also said: “Biggest plot twist ever they started of the show by jumping out a helicopter”
Another person said: “Cue them all being shocked that they’re being chucked out a helicopter and thrust straight into a trial even though they’ve all seen the show.”
However, many fans of the show jumped to the defence of the celebs, saying they understand how stressful the challenge must be, and how they wouldn’t be able to jump out of a helicopter themselves.
One person said: “Thank goodness I’m not a celebrity. I absolutely hate heights. I couldn’t jump out of that helicopter.”
Another added: “Say it every year, never could I jump from a helicopter.”
A third said: “On a level though, they’re actually so brave bcos you could not pay me enough to jump out of a helicopter.”
One person said they’d much rather jump from a helicopter than the other challenge. They said: “I would have rather jumped out of the helicopter than had my head stuck in a box with god knows what, them ants are horrible as well”
