Fans Think They Know Why the Next ‘A Quiet Place’ Film Is Being Delayed

A Quiet Place Part 4 is crash landing into cinemas a little later than scheduled.

The film, the fourth in Paramount’s series of sci-fi thrillers, was originally due to release July 9, 2027. Now, it’s dropping July 30, 2027. That’s a delay of three weeks, and fans think they know why.

In a word: Superman. Director James Gunn’s sequel, Superman: Man of Tomorrow, is scheduled for July 9, 2027—the same day A Quiet Place Part III was originally set to debut. With the new July 30 release date, the films will no longer open head-to-head.

“They’re scared of the Gunn,” writes one commenter on X.

Directed, written, and produced by John Krasinski, A Quiet Place takes place on an Earth invaded by aliens with advanced hearing. Entirely blind, they hunt through sound alone. That renders Earth’s survivors effectively mute as they try and avoid a swift death by making as little noise as possible.

The original film released in 2018 and stars Krasinski alongside Emily Blunt as the married couple trying to protect their family from the alien threat. It earned 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and grossed over $340 million worldwide on a $17 million budget (per Variety), virtually guaranteeing sequels.

2021’s A Quiet Place Part 2 made $297 million on a budget of $61 million, while 2024’s A Quiet Place: Day One made $261 million against a budget of $67 million. While the lowest box office in the series, it’s still a significant profit.

A Quiet Place Part 4 doesn’t look likely to continue the story from A Quiet Place: Day One. “I very much approached this one as its own standalone thing that you can watch without needing to have seen the other ones.” director Michael Sarnoski told Variety last year.

That said, Sarnoski favors the odds of seeing Day One revisited. “Absolutely. I bet you will. But I don’t know — at this point, I’m just recovering from making this one. So I’m sure Paramount will come up with something very fun next.”
