In an era in which filming in Los Angeles has hit new lows, a new indie feature is gearing up to begin production this month in the thirty mile zone — with some new additions to the cast.
Happy Endings star Eliza Coupe, Our Flag Means Death and Flight of the Conchords‘ Rhys Darby and The Mindy Project‘s Beth Grant have joined the female buddy comedy.

What Now is inspired by the real-life friendship of Health-Ade Kombucha founder Daina Trout and internet personality Sharzad Kiadeh, both of whom star in the film and executive produce. It centers on a burned-out protein bar CEO and a canceled TV host who, per the logline, “collide at a desert wellness retreat. Fueled by breast milk smoothies and grief, they form an unlikely bond, rediscovering purpose, resilience-and a little sparkle-along the way.”
What Now hails from director Daniella Eisman, known for helming episodes of The Sex Lives of College Girls and Superstore. Standing Up, Falling Down scribe Peter Hoare penned the script. Guy Chachkes of Reelarc produces, with Kailey Marsh of Five Line executive producing, and Mia Cusumano handling casting.
In addition to Happy Endings, Coupe is known for her work in Future Man, High Potential, and Netflix’s The Residence. Darby has appeared in the last two Jumanji features, as well as the recent Universal action feature Love Hurts, and Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins.
Coupe is repped by Verve and Ames Hashagen Entertainment. Darby is repped by UTA, Karen Kay Management and Artists First. Grant is repped by Buchwald. Eisman is repped by Verve and Circle Management + Production. Hoare is repped by Verve and Five Line.
