Looks like love has run its course for Akon and his now ex-wife Tomeka Thiam.

That’s because Thiam was the one who put an end to things as she filed for divorce, with the huge split taking place days before the couple’s 29th wedding anniversary.

The reasoning for the colossal breakup, Thiam cites in documents obtained by both People and TMZ, is irreconcilable differences.

The two tied the knot back on Sept. 15, 1996.

Of Akon’s nine children, according to documents, the couple share one child — a 17-year-old daughter named Journey. Thiam is now seeking joint legal custody and sole physical custody. She’s also seeking spousal support and is attempting to get the court to block the musician from receiving any from her.

Previously, the rapper has said he believes in polygamy.

As a guest on The Zeze Mills Show in 2022, he said “[Polygamy is] part of our culture. Absolutely.”

“For me, it looks normal, because it’s culture for us. We didn’t go outside of our African culture when we got to the Western world. See, the flaw that the Western world made is they created all these rules without putting nature into account.”

Additionally, the “Smack That” crooner has been cryptic about how many wives he’s had in the past.

In fact, some years ago, while sitting down with DJ Vlad, the subject of how many wives and children Akon came up, where he only confirmed that he had nine children.

“I have seven boys and two girls,” the “Lonely” star told Vlad before joking that he enjoys the public’s curiosity about his love life. “I’mma let it stay a rumor. I like this. I like the fact that people are guessing now, I love it. I’m not confirming nor denying. You go online, you may see nine, you might see seven, you might see four. I love it, though.”
