Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg has officially entered the most exclusive club in entertainment. With a Grammy win on February 1, the director has completed the coveted title, joining the elite few who have won it.

Steven Spielberg gets EGOT designation

Spielberg’s unparalleled career in cinema has now been crowned with a rare honor that transcends any single medium. The visionary behind some of history’s biggest movies has achieved EGOT status. His Grammy win for the Disney+ documentary Music by John Williams was the final piece of the puzzle, propelling him into a circle of only 21 competitive EGOT winners to date. For the unversed, an EGOT winner is a person who has won all four major American entertainment awards: an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award.

The Laurent Bouzerau-directed film beat out Devo, Live at the Royal Albert Hall, Relentless, and Piece by Piece. It chronicles the legendary composer’s career and his long-standing collaboration with Spielberg. Their partnership began with The Sugarland Express and later produced some of cinema’s most enduring films. The documentary’s win not only honors Williams’ legacy but also is a defining moment in Spielberg’s own career.

Alongside Spielberg, the Grammy is credited to producers Laurent Bouzereau, Sara Bernstein, and Justin Falvey. Furthermore, Darryl Frank, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Meredith Kaulfers, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Justin Wilkes.

This Grammy completes a legendary awards trajectory. Steven Spielberg’s Oscar legacy is immense. He has three Academy Awards, including Best Picture for Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan, and a record 14 nominations for Best Picture. His television work has earned him 13 Emmy Awards, dating back to 1991, for projects like Band of Brothers. His Tony Award came in 2022 for producing the acclaimed musical A Strange Loop.

With this win, Spielberg stands alongside EGOT legends like Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Viola Davis, and Sir Elton John.
