Zach Cregger is setting things in motion for his upcoming horror thriller reboot of Resident Evil by adding Paul Walter Hauser to the cast. The actor recently made his MCU debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, where he played the role of Mole Man. Hauser will join Austin Abrams, who is hot off the success of Weapons.
Plot details for the movie, which is based on the Capcom horror franchise, are still under wraps. Previous Resident Evil films were a blend of sci-fi and horror, exploring the escapades of Alice, who battles zombies and the malevolent Umbrella Corporation responsible for unleashing the monsters.
As for Hauser, details about his role are also too soon to tell. The actor is best known for starring in Apple TV+’s Black Bird, for which he won several accolades, including Emmy, Golden Globe, and Critics’ Choice awards. This new project adds to his busy schedule, as he will be seen lending his chops to several other films like Deliver Me From Nowhere, opposite Jeremy Allen White, Balls Upand The Very Best People.
The new Resident Evil film is co-written by Shay Hatten (Ballerina, John Wick: Chapter 4, Army of the Dead) and is slated to hit theaters on Sept. 18, 2026, through Sony Pictures.
