Prince William
backs football any way he can, and if it means lending his
support to getting an access road made in Cornwall, not only will
he do it, he’ll also visit the football club to officially open
it.
The Duke of Cornwall, as William is known within his duchy, paid
a visit to the Mousehole AFC field to view the
new access road and officially open it, after a summer of
construction championed by the future king.
Prince William
is said to have read a newspaper article about Mousehole AFC’s
standing in the league despite the bad access to their field—which
was narrow and covered in potholes, which made traffic a nightmare
in addition to damaging vehicles and prohibiting players, teams and
spectators from getting to the field easily.

The future king then threw his support behind Mousehole FC and
initiated a consortium of businesses to create a new access road to
the field. All eight businesses were represented during Prince
William’s visit, and all of them donated their services at no cost
to the football club.
William was overheard thanking the businesses for doing the
work, which lasted four weeks over the summer, telling them that he
appreciates “what you have done for the club and the
community,” and that “by working together it got
done.”
On the Kensington Palace social media accounts, Prince William
wrote: “Maintaining vital community facilities such as roads is
an essential element of supporting local life – helping football
clubs like Mousehole continue to thrive, connecting people and
supporting the next generation into football at the
grassroots.”
During his visit, Prince William also met with players, coaches,
and volunteers who play with and support Mousehole AFC, including
the Under-10s, who were all very eager to get a photo with the
royal. He toured the facilities and learned that attendance has
already increased with the new access road.
The future king also shared a personal message: “Thank you
to everyone in Mousehole for an incredible visit today and to all
those who made the new road to this football club possible. You are
a shining example of what can happen when people and businesses
come together to create a team to help a community. W”
