The Forestville Board of Education, led by President Andrea Spengler, appointed a music teacher and a librarian at its most recent meeting.

FORESTVILLE — Two significant additions to the Forestville Central School District were officially appointed at a recent Board of Education meeting, just in time for the start of the upcoming school year. Sarah Pearson will be the district’s newest Music Teacher, while Elizabeth Barter will take over as the new Library Media Specialist.

Pearson holds initial certification in Music K-12. Her four-year probationary appointment commences Aug. 27. For the 2025-2026 school year, Pearson will receive a salary of $43,949.

Barter holds an internship certification as a Library Media Specialist. Like Pearson, Barter’s four-year probationary appointment commences Aug. 27. For the 2025-2026 school year, Barter will receive a salary of $44,125, accounting for 24 graduate hours.

The Board of Education accepted the resignation of Music Teacher Makayla Coalts, effective June 30, at its regular Board meeting in May. At its July meeting, the Board accepted the resignation of Elizabeth Locke as Library Media Specialist, effective Aug. 31.

The Board also approved Nate Shuart as an Assistant Football Coach and Jeff Heim as Trap Team Coach for the 2025-2026 school year.

Substitute callers for the year are Sara Botticello and Brenda Schneider at a stipend of $2,500. Justin Hycner was approved as a part-time cleaner at an hourly rate of $15.50.

Marv Cummings was approved as a Bus Driver, beginning Sept. 4. Jane Scott and Jennifer Tampio-France were approved as summer transportation substitutes. Two Elementary student teachers – Sarah Maguda and Courtney Peregosky – were also approved.

The 2025-2026 tax levy of $4,123,697 was officially approved at the latest meeting, as well. Contracts with Chautauqua Transportation Services and Gallagher for insurance services were also approved. The district also approved membership dues for the Chautauqua County School Boards Association and the Rural Schools Association.

Transportation requests for two students to attend Northern Chautauqua Catholic School were approved, as well as tuition waivers for the children of teachers within the district.

The Board also approved updated Student Handbooks and the Athletic Handbook, as well as the Code of Conduct; the District-wide Emergency Response Plan; the Professional Learning Plan; and the Chemical Hygiene Plan. The Board also adopted a policy regarding the use of internet-enabled devices during the school day.

The next meeting of the Forestville Board of Education is Thursday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
