A Fox News expert detailed the “significant challenges” of law enforcement’s latest move in the search for Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie.

On Monday, February 16, the sixteenth day of Nancy’s disappearance, Fox News‘ Bill Hemmer spoke to Mike Easter, a retired FBI special agent, about Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and his department using Bluetooth-equipped helicopters to scan for the Today Show host‘s mother, who uses a Bluetooth pacemaker.

Easter, who has over a decade of experience as a National Asset with the Cellular Analysis Survey Team, said the move brings “significant challenges” despite electronic surveillance on an air platform having “enormous success.” It comes after an ex-FBI agent revealed the hidden codeword that Savannah used in her message to the kidnappers.

Easter told Hemmer, “I think electronic surveillance on an air platform has enormous success. I think, however, you have to have some expectation management here in that we are looking now for a Bluetooth device or a medical device that is emitting a Bluetooth signal.

“And so there are going to be significant challenges here in identifying that device location, and both of those challenges would center around proximity, and when you think of proximity, the biggest challenge is where do we begin looking for this medical device and so it’s not so easy that law enforcement can take big Arizona down to small Tucson or even a neighborhood.”

Easter concluded, “We have to first know where to deploy this asset to refine the location of that medical device.”

Hemmer then asked the expert if authorities had to worry about the Bluetooth device running out of battery. Easter replied that thankfully, Nancy’s pacemaker has Bluetooth with low energy, which would last for years.

As law enforcement tries to scan the area around Nancy’s home, the FBI says a black glove recovered last week is believed to be the same one worn by the intruder seen in Nest video footage from Nancy’s front door.

The FBI says DNA from the glove is being analyzed to identify a possible suspect.

The DNA evidence will be passed through CODIS, the FBI-managed Combined DNA Index System, a national database that contains more than 19 million offender profiles, the agency said.

celebrity.land reports that authorities will likely also submit the evidence to third-party DNA-mapping services available to the public.

If the suspect has never used one of these services, a family member might have used one, and that’s law enforcement’s in. The DNA-mapping services can provide information about the suspect’s identity through family DNA profiling.

How quickly information about the DNA will come depends on the type and quality of the sample, Jeffrey Halstead, former Fort Worth police chief, told celebrity.land.

The urgency of Nancy’s case may allow law enforcement to expedite testing and obtain results more quickly than usual.

“It could be anywhere between 24 and 48 hours,” Halstead said.

The type of DNA recovered — full or touch DNA — will determine the findings. However, Halstead said even smaller samples can be significant if they tie directly to the glove and person captured on video.

Late on February 15, the Daily Mail published a new interview with Sheriff Nanos from the previous day, in which he discussed several details of the case, including the digital forensics that could give him and his department, as well as the FBI, new evidence to help catch the suspected kidnappers.

While Google’s cloud-based video system specialists are working to pull more information from cameras in Nancy’s Arizona home, Nanos remains silent on who was with her when she was driven home from Tommaso Cioni and Annie Guthrie’s home, 10 minutes away, after dinner and a game night.

“We know who it is, but… when we saw everybody was attacking everybody and saying it’s this we just thought, you know what? We’ll say it was family,” the sheriff told the Daily Mail.

The sheriff admitted that he and investigators changed that detail to just “family” in the statement “family drove her home” to ward off growing online rumors.

Nanos remains firm that “nobody” has been cleared in the case, including workers at Guthrie’s home and family members. “I stay in touch with them, mostly Savannah. I’ve not been in touch with Tommaso or Annie too much,” he said.

It comes as the man who claims to know Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapper reveals the chilling reason he wants Bitcoin.
