I have a generational question that came up from the reunion: location sharing with friends. I don’t share my location with anyone and I don’t have anyone else’s location. (Lainey: I share location with my husband, permanently. And when we’re travelling together, my friends and I will do the same. I will also do it here and there when we’re all meeting up somewhere. The reason: I live my life like I’m an heiress who might be kidnapped at any moment, not kidding.)

Backrooms is a massive surprise hit and the director is a YouTuber named Kane Parsons who was born in 2005. The development of this project is incredibly interesting (it essentially came from horror fanfic). A24 took a big chance on a 20-year-old director and it cost $10 million to produce and has passed the $100 million mark. On top of that is the financial success, it has captured an elusive audience: teenagers. Executives are constantly citing attention spans as a problem, trying to say Gen Z (and Gen A) have given up on movies. In Gen Z’s defense, a lot of movies are too long! Maybe they just need more directors who speak their language.
