Some of Strathmore’s top singers have released a brand-new single.
Melissa Matheson, Michael Smith and Erinn Gregory have been performing together for years.
Matheson began pursuing music during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she had extra time to explore it.
Gregory, who is married to local country singer Drew Gregory, credits her husband as her musical inspiration.
Smith has been playing guitar for years.
The trio released Hold Me to the public on Nov. 1.
“It was a journey, this song, and it goes out to anyone who’s ever felt lost in love. I initially wasn’t sure if I would record it, but I had an opportunity to play it at a house concert. I asked for feedback at the end of the concert, and this song was at the top of the list,” Matheson said.
She later sent the song to producers, who loved it.
“People have really shown that they’re supporting this song and that they can relate to it. I’m so grateful these guys could help me bring it to life and share it with the world,” Matheson said.
Gregory said she’s happy to see her best friend using music as an outlet to support her mental health.
“I think the biggest part for me has been bearing witness to it all. Getting to sing the harmonies on it is pretty special,” Gregory said.
“It’s neat to watch someone who was always so nervous about music suddenly come out of their shell. It just seems unreal that at this age, you can do something new.”
Smith said he loves playing music with his friends and seeing Matheson take the lead in the creative process.
“Melissa has these sparks of ideas, and then she brings them in, and we can roll with that. Then she says, ‘All right, we’re going into the studio and we’re going to record this,’” he said.
The song is available on Apple Music, Spotify and other streaming platforms.
