From August 20 to 23, the Breckenridge Festival of International Arts will be bringing downtown Breckenridge drag performances, live music and art installations, ranging from up-close encounters with gigantic birds to peaceful “listening lounges.”
The festival’s keynote performance will feature Pattie Gonia, a performer whose drag persona advocates for climate action.
Breckenridge Creative Arts describes the keynote as “part inspiring talk, part drag performance and part dance party.” Pattie Gonia will be joined by DJ Matt Suave and fellow drag performer LeeLee.
Also included in the festival’s lineup is Close-Act Theater’s “Blue Birds” — an exhibit in which actors transform into birds that tower over nine feet tall — and the “Inner Harmony Listening Lounge,” designed by Laurie Shapiro.
“Surrounded by colorful hand-painted tunnel and dome structures that shift with the changing light throughout the day, visitors are invited to pause, reflect and explore through guided audio experiences curated by Jasmine Leslie Ross,” says BreckCreate’s description of Shapiro’s installation.
Most of the festival’s events are free to the public, with the exception of Pattie Gonia’s performance and “Otherworlds,” an art exhibit that opened earlier this summer and is included in the festival’s lineup.
