Turner and Harington star as lovers in Natasha Kermani’s horror film, which follows Turner’s Anne as she grapples with her feelings for Jago (Harington) and her troubled relationship with mother-in-law Morwen (Marcia Gay Harden). The Dreadful represents a reunion for the pair as Turner and Harington previously appeared as half-siblings Sansa Stark and Jon Snow on eight seasons of the HBO series Game of Thrones.
In the trailer, Anne is shown living with an increasingly possessive Morwen while she awaits the return of her husband, who is at war. The two women are “living on the outskirts of society” in medieval England, which leads to Morwen stealing from strangers (she is shown slitting a man’s throat after he brings a gift for Anne).
