A report claims that Gautam Gambhir has been offered the role of CEO, mentor and partner by the new owners of Rajasthan Royals.

Gautam Gambhir has reportedly been approached by IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals to come on board as CEO, mentor and partner. Gambhir, a two-time World Cup winner, is currently involved with the Indian men’s cricket team in the capacity of head coach.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran, 2008 IPL champions RR are currently in the process of undergoing ownership change and one of the new three stakeholders has offered Gambhir a minority equity stake – believed to be in the region of 2-3 per cent – in the franchise.
Gambhir boasts of a successful IPL record both as a player and mentor. He has been at the centre of Kolkata Knight Riders’ three IPL triumphs – twice as a captain and once as mentor. Additionally, during his two-season stint with Lucknow Super Giants, also as a mentor, the franchise finished third on the points table and qualified for the playoffs.
Why Gambhir Cannot Accept The Offer?
It though is unlikely that Gambhir will end up joining the franchise for the time being thanks to his association with the Indian men’s cricket team.
As per the Supreme Court’s ruling based on the Lodha Committee recommendations, an individual cannot simultaneously hold a position with the Indian team and be associated with an IPL franchise (in roles such as mentor, partner or advisor) since it constitutes a conflict of interest.
Should Gambhir accept the RR offer, he will have to step down as India head coach.
Gambhir Committed To Team India
As per reports, Gambhir’s current contract with the Indian team runs through the 2027 ODI World Cup and he remains fully committed to the national team.
While he’s currently busy with overseeing India’s title defence at the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup where they have already qualified for the Super 8 round, it’s expected he will also be at the helm of affairs when cricket makes its return to the Olympics in the T20 format at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
