Season 2 of Gen V came to an explosive close on October 22, with Marie Moreau and friends heading off into the Starlight Resistance. With an ending like that, it’s no surprise that fans are wondering if there will be a season 3 of the hit Prime Video series.
Gen V originally began as a spin-off of Eric Kripke’s popular series, The Boys, based on a comic book by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. That show is known for its explicit violence, nasty and complicated characters, and wild depictions of superhero sex. Gen V isn’t much different—these young supes are in college, after all. But The Boys is coming to an end with its fifth and final season in 2026. The show’s prequel, Vought Rising, began production this year. Yet another spin-off, The Boys: Mexico, is in development too.
Does this leave space for more story at Godolkin University? Here’s what we know so far about a possible third season of Gen V.
Will there be a season 3 of Gen V?
It has not yet been confirmed that Gen V will get a third season. While speaking with The Wrap, Kripke emphasized that a lot of these decisions come down to streaming numbers. While Amazon has obviously been supportive of The Boys universe overall, they need people to be watching Gen V as the show airs.
“We’re fortunate in that we’ve always gotten a lot of support,” he shared. “We still have to deliver ratings. It’s a very classic, old-school TV thing, but we need viewers to show up to justify more of them.”
He did add that the team has “a plan for Gen V season 3” that they are “psyched about.”
The other issue is that there has been a change in leadership since Gen V began, with Peter Friedlander, formerly at Netflix, taking over as head of global TV at Amazon. Big changes in the upper echelons can mean a change in direction. But who knows, he could be a fan.
What would season 3 of Gen V be about?
In season 2, our protagonists are struggling with the death of Andre, who was played by actor Chance Perdomo in season 1. Perdomo died in March 2024 following a motorcycle accident and his loss was essentially written into the show. Andre dies off-screen while attempting to liberate his friends from Elmira, the supe rehabilitation center that serves more as a prison and torture complex as scientists run experiments on budding superheroes.
Much of the season is spent with Marie, Emma, and Jordan dealing with the fallout from their stint in Elmira while butting heads with Cate and Sam, who have seemingly taken over the school in league with Cipher, the new dean of Godolkin. But Cipher’s machinations soon turn everything upside down. The dean appears determined to force Marie into discovering the depth of her powers. He sets up Marie to fight Jordan in front of the whole school, which certainly awakens something in her, while revealing his own supe ability—controlling people. When this isn’t enough, he imprisons the group again, leaving Marie to find the body of her sister, Annabeth, with her throat slit.
Marie digs deeper than ever before and raises her sister from the dead. She then decides to defeat Cipher by healing his ward, the horribly burned and sick Dr. Thomas Godolkin, whom the students believe is being held captive. She does it, expecting him to set everything right. But it turns out Cipher was never in charge at all—Godolkin has been controlling him just like he controlled Jordan in the ring.
In the final episode, the friends must stop Godolkin as he starts killing the weakest supes on campus. They are ultimately successful, and Marie pops his head like a grape, but not before he almost takes over her body for good. The group ends up running from the university before they get blamed for the chaos, meeting up with Starlight and A-Train as new rebels.
Season 3 would likely deal with the fallout of the students being on the run. Other issues set up at the end of season 2 relate to the romantic relationships, with Jordan questioning if they can be more than friends with Marie, as well as the tension between Emma and Sam—and the newly introduced Greg, though he’s staying on campus.
There will also likely be a time jump to coincide with what happens in the final season of The Boys, which some fans think will end with the death of Homelander. However, if Marie really is more powerful than Homelander, it would be pretty cool to see them face off. That might have to come in the series finale of The Boys, however, meaning parts of the story would not end up on screen in Gen V.
In his interview with The Wrap, Kripke shared, “As long as there’s an interesting story to tell and new facets to reveal, I’m in. Without spoiling anything, I think the universe post-The Boys season 5 is such a fascinating universe; there’s a lot to explore. It’s so much more of the wild west in terms of, like, fucking anything goes—without giving anything away. And I think that would be a blast to put the Gen V kids in the middle of.”
Who would star in season 3 of Gen V?
Season 2 starred Jaz Sinclair as Marie Moreau, Lizze Broadway as Emma, Maddie Phillips as Cate, London Thor and Derek Luh as Jordan Li, and Asa Germann as Sam Riordan, returning from season 1. We’ll wait for Prime Video to confirm who’ll officially return if Gen V is renewed.
