Hollywood royalty is arriving in Upstate New York this month as Oscar winner Rita Moreno visits the George Eastman Museum in Rochester for a two-night celebration of her legendary career.
The 93-year-old actress, dancer and singer — one of the few performers to achieve EGOT status, winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony — will appear at the museum’s Dryden Theatre on Oct. 28 for a screening of the 1961 musical classic “West Side Story.” Before the film, Moreno will join Jared Case, the museum’s curator of film exhibitions, for an on-stage conversation.

Tickets to the event are $50 and can now be purchased online via the George Eastman Museum website.
The following evening, Oct. 29, Moreno will return to the Dryden Theatre to receive the George Eastman Award, which honors artists for their distinguished contributions to the art of cinema. The award, first presented in 1955, is one of the oldest film honors in the United States and has recognized such luminaries as Greta Garbo, Meryl Streep and Martin Scorsese.
The ceremony will include remarks by Peter Bagrov, the museum’s senior curator of the Moving Image Department, a reel of highlights from Moreno’s storied career, and another on-stage conversation with the actress. A gala will follow the presentation.
Moreno made history as the first Latina woman to win an Academy Award for her portrayal of Anita in “West Side Story.” Her career has spanned more than seven decades, from early Broadway roles to recent projects like Steven Spielberg’s 2021 “West Side Story,” remake and the Netflix series “One Day At a Time.” She currently lives in Berkeley, California.
The George Eastman Museum is housed on the estate of George Eastman, the founder of Eastman Kodak and a pioneer of modern photography and motion pictures. It is among the most prestigious film archives in the world and has long served as a hub for cinema history in Upstate New York, preserving and celebrating the legacy of both film and photography.
