This is a big week for the wife of Georgia football coach Kirby Smart.
Because the Bulldogs open the season on Saturday, Aug. 30 against Marshall?
Not quite. Instead, the real big news for Mary Beth Smart came on Tuesday.
That’s when she texted her husband that music superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce announced their engagement.
“I wouldn’t have known other than the fact that my phone got texted by my wife within three seconds of the engagement happening,” Smart said. “She went crazy and told me I need to play Taylor Swift at practice all day in honor of her getting engaged. She told me it would happen a while back. I told her no way. And then it happened.”
The revelation came via a social media question from “Amanda in Winder,” near the end of “Bulldogs Live” on Thursday night when Smart was asked his thoughts of the Swift-Kelce engagement.
Mary Beth Smart and their twins Weston and Julia traveled to Amsterdam in July of 2024 to see Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour.
“She made sure I knew that she had the dress that Taylor Swift had on when she got engaged,” Smart said. “My wife wore it before Taylor did. She was mighty proud of that.”
