If you’re looking for your next period drama binge-watch after The Gilded Age wrapped up its third season, look no further than House of Guinness.
The forthcoming Netflix historical drama series puts the spotlight on the titular Guinnesses, the family responsible for making their dry stout beer a household name. Set in the latter half of the 19th century, the show will follow Sir Benjamin Guinness’s four children as they fight for their place in the world after his death. In the wake of Sir Benjamin Guinness’s death, adult siblings Arthur (Anthony Boyle), Edward (Louis Partridge), Anne (Emily Fairn), and Ben (Fionn O’Shea) must work together in order to forge a new legacy for their family name.
Showrunner Steven Knight told Tudum that brothers Arthur and Edward “were given joint stewardship of the brewery for very interesting reasons…. Before [Sir Benjamin] died, their father very deliberately chained Arthur and Edward together in responsibility for the brewery. You’ll find out why when you watch.”

House of Guinness explores an epic story inspired by one of Europe’s most famous and enduring dynasties—the Guinness Family. Set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, the story begins immediately after the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness, the man responsible for the extraordinary success of the Guinness brewery, and the far-reaching impact of his will on the fate of his four adult children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben, as well as on a group of Dublin characters who work and interact with the phenomenon that is Guinness.
The show comes from the same creator of Peaky Blinders.
Knight previously helmed the BBC’s critically acclaimed period drama series Peaky Blinders, which followed a crime organization operating in Birmingham after World War I. Like Peaky Blinders, House of Guinness will explore themes of family, loyalty, power, and money.
“It’s the extraordinary story of a family who happens to be the inheritors of the biggest brewery in the world. They’re young and are given the task of taking on this incredibly successful brand,” Knight said to Tudum. “The first priority is: Don’t screw it up. And the second priority is to make Guinness even bigger.”
