On Tuesday, July 21, Bob Dylan will perform at Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium for the first time since 2016’s ‘Never Ending Tour.’
Prior to that — and perhaps more memorably — his last visit to the legendary outdoor venue was way back in 1965. As fans may recall, that two-part concert was The Bard’s second after “going electric” at the Newport Folk Festival. He revved the amps up for the second half of the show after playing a handful of acoustic songs and was roundly booed.
Fans chanted “we want the old Dylan” and he didn’t return for 51 (!) years.

This time around, The Bard is on his ongoing ‘Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour,’ in support of his well-received 2020 album with the same name. He’ll be joined by special guests Lucinda Williams and Jimmie Vaughn.
While we don’t know what Dylan will perform, Set List FM reports that he played 16 songs at his last show in Pittsburgh on July 12.
Notable tracks to make the cut include fan favorites from the ’60s and ’70s like “It Ain’t Me, Babe,” “I Shall Be Released,” “To Be Alone With You” and “When I Paint My Masterpiece” along with tunes from “Rough and Rowdy Ways” as well as Jerry Lee Lewis and Bo Diddley covers.
” Bluntly put, this is a fantastic show that he’s taken on the road, but appreciating it as such perhaps may require a willingness to surrender to a vibe,” Variety reported after a recent show. “With dim lighting, a setlist featuring a lot more deep cuts than world-famous classics, and a hooded central figure who seems to grow more mysterious right before our eyes, the mood is somewhere between “the after-hours roadhouse of your dreams” and “eternity’s waiting room.”

Comprised of ten tracks, the elder statesman’s 39th album is yet another masterful entry in his storied catalog.
Ranging from romantic ballads (“I’ve Made Up My Mind To Give Myself To You”) to jaunty blues (“False Prophet”) to rollicking harmonica jams (“Goodbye Jimmy Reed”), Dylan demonstrates that even in his advanced age, he still has something to offer. This is no cash grab, the music here is clearly a labor of love.
For those wondering what the second disc is, it’s just a single song. “A Murder Most Foul” is a freewheeling, ambitious, nearly spoken-word 16-minute piece that must be heard to truly be appreciated.
