MAGA influencers on Friday appeared to crack after Katy Perry released a promotional clip for her latest single, “Watch It Burn,” which included a cameo by former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — her boyfriend and a longtime foe of President Donald Trump.
Perry posted the clip on TikTok with the caption, “Ancient texts say that if you hop to this song you will get 1,000 years of good luck.” While it was arguably quaint and featured Trudeau simply hop past in the background, the roar from right-wing critics was swift and heavy.
“What are you doing, bro?” Griff Jenkins, co-host of “Fox & Friends Weekend,” said during Saturday’s broadcast. “Literally, a 54-year-old grown man dancing in [a clip with his] girlfriend Katy Perry … remember he divorced his wife after leaving the prime minister’s office.”
Jenkins continued, “I don’t know what to say about this other than, ‘That is weird.’”
Trudeau previously incurred the wrath of MAGA voters over his strained relationship with Trump, who has repeatedly said Canada should be the 51st U.S. state — and called its then-leader “weak” and “dishonest” in 2018 and “two-faced” during a 2019 NATO summit.
“It was not on my bingo card for Fidel Castro’s grandson,” quipped “Fox & Friends” co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy, the wife of Trump loyalist Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, fanning a conspiracy theory Saturday that Trudeau is the descendant of Cuba’s late leader.
While the former prime minister became increasingly unpopular in his home country over the course of his final term and stepped down in 2025 after a dramatic decline in approval ratings, the furor over his cameo appeared rather outsized given its length: Trudeau hopped across the frame for a total of three seconds in the 15-second promo clip.
“Former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is jumping around like a clown with Katy Perry. These leaders are so feminine…,” wrote one self-described “Truth Seeker” on X, with another person commenting: “Katy Perry is dressed like a 16 year old and Trudeau looks like a stalker.”
Dr. Jebra Faushay, author of “UNWOKE: An Unfiltered Escape from the Cult of Wokeness,” voiced her criticism with even stronger disparagement, writing Friday, “Katy Perry is dressed like a giant toddler while Justin Trudeau bops around like a retard. Pure cringe.”
