If you’ve been meaning to watch — or rewatch — the original Gilmore Girls, consider this your coffee-fueled warning. Seasons 1-7 of the beloved mother-daughter dramedy are leaving Netflix on June 30, ending a 12-year run on the platform.
“It’s a show? It’s a lifestyle. It’s a religion,” a post from the streaming giant on X read, quoting a Season 1 line Lorelai says about The Donna Reed Show. “We are sorry to say that Gilmore Girls Seasons 1-7 will be leaving Netflix in the US on June 30. Raising a cup of coffee to every fan who visited Stars Hollow with us.” The post included a photo of the show’s leads, Alexis Bledel’s Rory and Lauren Graham’s Lorelai.
The show’s departure from Netflix marks the end of an era for both fans and the streamer, which didn’t give a reason for the decision. The Warner Bros. Television series was hugely popular on Netflix, where it premiered in 2014 — two years before the streaming service revived it as a four-part miniseries.
It was repeatedly one of Netflix’s most-streamed series, as figures showed that the (largely) female viewership craved the comfort of watching nostalgic 2000s programs.

Fortunately, Gilmore Girls leaving Netflix doesn’t cut ties with Stars Hollow. All seven seasons are still available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu, plus it’s possible that the show could eventually move to HBO Max — which, after all, is owned by Warner Bros. — though no official move has been announced.
The 2016 Netflix revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, is expected to remain on the streaming service.

A true cult classic, Gilmore Girls has that irresistible blend of small-town charm, intergenerational family dynamics, quirky characters and romance. Plus endless cups of coffee. It’s not really a plot-heavy show, which makes it ideal as a comfort rewatch.
Stars Hollow, the fictional Connecticut town where the characters live, is part of the appeal, thanks to its storybook feel. But ultimately, it’s the rapid-fire dialogue, relatable mother-daughter relationship and pop-culture references that fans love. Cap it off with Carole King’s iconic “Where You Lead” as the theme song and stellar supporting cast — including Melissa McCarthy (Sookie), Jared Padalecki (Dean), Scott Patterson (Luke), Sean Gunn (Kirk), Milo Ventimiglia (Jess) and Kelly Bishop (Emily) — and guest appearances and you’ve got yourself one sure-fire win.
