With over 35 curators and 250-plus projects, the 10-day festival in Panjim comes to a close on December 21.
Part of Multiplay 02, the second edition of a segment started at the Serendipity Arts Festival last year, and curated by Gurugram-based artist duo Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra of Thukral & Tagra, Bengaluru-based artist Jayasimha Chandrashekar’s performance uses a litho press, a 200-year-old technology, to print the phrase ‘Every day is a cliché’, on the day’s newspaper. The ink goes across headlines on Special Intensive Revision, Trump’s visa fee, Goa’s nightclub blaze. “The performance opens up layers: old rhythms of work, labour that is disconnected from the end product, the insignificance of the news in a paid-media landscape, and the noise around news,” says Sumir Tagra of Thukral & Tagra.
Also at Multiplay is Melbourne-based Chunky Move’s ‘You, Beauty’, a participatory performance.
Other shows include: Infinite Drape, curated by Rashmi Varma, bringing Border&Fall’s online anthology The Sari Series with Raw Mango’s handmade saris; Stepwells: Poetry in Craft, drawing from Gujarat and Rajasthan’s stepwell architectural history; and Goa’s Smallest Big Tradition examining the miniature Narkasur effigy, traditionally associated with Diwali.
