Live music, food and family activities will fill Union Point Park in New Bern as the third annual Global Citizenship Music Festival returns next Friday, April 24.
The nonprofit Arts to End Genocide will host the festival from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the downtown park. Admission is free. News 12’s Valentina Wilson will help emcee the event.
Organizers say the event will feature performers representing multiple cultures, along with food trucks, a beer and wine tent, and children’s activities. Mitch Lewis, executive director of Arts to End Genocide, said, “Well, we have the Hindu dancers, Soulful Sisters, representing the Indian culture. We have West African performers representing Africa. We have Los Ambrosus, which is representing Cuba.”
Arts to End Genocide helps refugees living on a garbage dump in Mali, West Africa. Organizers say 100 percent of the money raised from the festival will support the group’s programs, including a sewing program in which mothers make items that are shipped to New Bern and sold at the Tryon Palace Gift Center.

Paula Al-Saihati, vice president of Arts to End Genocide, said the organization has expanded its work to include additional skills training. “But we’ve also started a program for soap making. We’ve done the milk processing. Some of the women wanted to learn to do henna,” she said.
