Memphis native GloRilla brings early Christmas gift to alma mater
Memphis native GloRilla brings early Christmas gift to her alma mater, Melrose High School. She donated $25,000 to the school’s fine arts program.
Grammy-nominated Memphis rapper GloRilla brought some grit and grind to the 2026 Ruffles NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Feb. 13.
The game — part of the NBA All-Star Weekend — saw GloRilla and various other celebs from the worlds of music, TV/film and sports kick off Friday evening’s festivities at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.
GloRilla flashed some aggression and hustle, playing some timely defense to help lead Team Giannis (Antetokounmpo) to a 65-58 victory over Team Anthony (Anderson). GloRilla’s teammate, actor Rome Flynn, won his second consecutive celeb game MVP award, finishing with 17 points.
In clips circulated by the NBA, GloRilla looked ready during a Feb. 12 practice ahead of the game, hitting her jump shot consistently, under the watchful eye of basketball trainer Chris “Lethal Shooter” Matthews.
In the first half of the game, GloRilla took one of just two shots on the night, but her long two-pointer was wide of the mark. At halftime, she received encouragement form her boyfriend, Toronto Raptors player and NBA All-Star Brandon Ingram, who told her she “needed to shoot 20 more shots.”
In the second half, GloRilla turned up the defense. With the score tied at 39 in the 3rd quarter, she fought and won a jump ball against reality TV star Taylor Frankie Paul. Glo would also finish with two rebounds on the night.
GloRilla is the second notable Memphis musician to appear in the celebrity game. In 2002 and 2003, Memphis-born, Millington-bred pop star Justin Timberlake made his mark in the competition, in a now famous moment where he hit a jumper over former NBA player and longtime analyst Kenny Smith.
