Anyone born in the *coughs* decade can probably still remember the way it felt to slip on those uncomfortable Chuck Taylors, attach your wallet to the chain hanging from your belt loop, and hitch a ride to X-Fest to hear one of the many emo bands playing at the time—at least, I do, and it was awesome.
So, when a Golden Retriever named Hugo pranced out of the ocean water with the most emo-looking swoop of hair I’ve ever seen, I was instantly transported back to that time. Take a look at this swoon-worthy emo boy and try not to fall in love (this cool guy probably won’t love you back).
Hugo is taking me back to standing in the mosh pit in the 1,000-degree sun in the middle of summer, while my friends and I sang our lungs out for hours. Maybe this Golden Retriever didn’t intend to be the next emo poster boy, but it’s too bad, because he is.
Based on the way the melodramatic pup stares into the camera like a superstar stud muffin, my guess is he’d be the lead singer, flipping his hair out of his eyes the whole show, while all the female dogs go wild. *sigh* When’s the new album coming out, bro? We’re waiting!

Though there aren’t any other posts showing off Hugo’s envy-worthy hairstyle, he’s so suave, it reminds me of another pup—the rare Mexican Hairless Dog, Dante, whose wacky flop of hair could easily land him in the guitarist role of Hugo’s band.
For a breed who’s more than 5,000 years old, he’s still got it!
Between Hugo and Dante, I don’t know who’s cooler or more emo. Regardless, they’re way out of my league.
Hugo’s Creative Emo Comparisons
The comments about Hugo’s swoop did not disappoint. Many offered their take on a famous emo band, but in true dog style. Here are a few favorites:
I can already hear the crowd singing along to “Bark 182,” hands swaying in the air—”don’t waste your time on me, you’re already the voice inside my head…”
