Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid shared some breaking Royal family news on Monday
Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid shared some “breaking” Prince William news live on today’s show.
Near the end of Monday’s (February 9) programme, Susanna revealed “breaking news” after the Prince and Princess of Wales issued a statement about the Epstein files.
“We have breaking news for you this morning. A spokesman for Kensington Palace has given an official comment on behalf of the Prince and Princess of Wales this morning on the fresh revelations over Jeffrey Epstein,” the host announced.
Ed Balls added: “It comes ahead of an official visit by Prince William to Saudi Arabia today… This clearly wasn’t expected this morning.”
The Palace’s statement read: “I can confirm the Prince and Princess of Wales have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations. Their thoughts remain focused on the victims,” reports the Mirror.
ITV’s Royal correspondent Chris Ship, who was broadcasting live from Riyadh, subsequently clarified: “Prince William arrives here later today for a visit we thought, possibly given everything that’s happened in the last week, might well be slightly overshadowed by these continuing revelations concerning William’s uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.”
Discussing the Palace’s response, Chris added: “Does it negate any further demand on Prince William for saying something while he’s here, because we haven’t heard from the King on this, not since he stripped his brother of all his titles in January.
“We haven’t heard from the Queen, who does a lot of work, we should point out, for the victims of domestic abuse. But, we can say, these are the first words we’ve had from a spokesperson from the palace, who clearly felt it was necessary to issue this this morning, just hours before Williams arrives in Riyadh.”
Following recent occasions where journalists questioned members of the Royal family regarding the Epstein revelations, Susanna observed that the situation was becoming “increasingly uncomfortable”.
Chris continued: “It is becoming more and more difficult and, as I said, that statement that we’ve got in the last couple of minutes from Kensington Palace is clearly an acknowledgement that people are going to be talking about this… There are clearly demands for the Royal family to say something.
“But then we should point out, what can they say? Andrew has been convicted of no wrongdoing, no conviction in a court of law. He’s denied all the allegations consistently.”
The correspondent wrapped up: “We’re getting to a point now where the palace can’t keep referring back to that statement in October, where the King and Queen said their thoughts remain and always will remain with the victims and survivors of abuse.
“The palace themselves are as surprised as we are when a new revelation comes out and a new email finds its way into one of our newsrooms. I think they’re in that point now where they have to start considering, ‘Do we say something? When do we say it? And also, what do we say, given Andrew’s persistent denials and the whole legality surrounding this issue.'”
This comes after Andrew vacated his Windsor residence sooner than expected following fresh details emerging about his association with Epstein. The former prince is now residing at King Charles’s privately-owned Sandringham Estate.
