GREAT MILLS, Md. — When you mention Dimitri Reeves in Southern Maryland, most people know exactly who he is. A graduate of Great Mills High School, Reeves is a renowned entertainer bringing communities together with his message of love and acceptance one moonwalk at a time.

He has always enjoyed listening to singer, songwriter, dancer and philanthropist Michael Jackson, who was born Aug. 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana. The “King of Pop” captured Reeves’ attention at an early age.

In a time when public immigration enforcement actions are being questioned, including the use of deadly force in some cases, Reeves has been a voice for peace and unity. He leaves a positive impression in every city he travels to. Reeves has performed in the company of gang members, and once they see the passion he brings to his performance, they often let their guards down and enjoy the moment.

Reeves enjoys positive music with encouraging lyrics.

“My message is love,” Reeves told The BayNet.

“Whatever you put out into the world you will get it back. We need to be careful. If we treat other people with respect, the same energy will return. History repeats itself because the kids are watching.”

Reeves keeps in touch with his followers on social media as often as he can. He recently encouraged members of the local special needs community, helping bring joy and the freedom to express themselves.

He was also contacted by a fan on the day she had to make the hardest medical decision possible — whether to take her husband off life support. She reached out to Reeves and told him that “he saved her life” and wished more people were like him.

Reeves is one of a kind and has always adored The Jackson Five.

“Love is unconditional, understanding and infinite,” Reeves said. “It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and never fails. When I was a kid, I used to watch them and then I stopped for a while.

“I was about to graduate and I didn’t know what to do. I got scared, so I got on my knees and I said, ‘Give me a sign of what I should do for the rest of my life,’ and days later Michael Jackson passed [June 25, 2009] at the young age of 50.”

Suddenly Jackson was back in the headlines.

“The day he passed away he was everywhere again,” Reeves said. “It brought back a flood of memories, and I said to myself, ‘This is what I would like to do for the rest of my life — be a great entertainer.’”

Reeves said motivation also came from his aunt Dawn.

“She would come into the house and go back-and-forth with her shoulders and say, ‘Go Mitri, Go Mitri.’

“She’s the reason why I’m an entertainer today.”

Bethany Young connected with Reeves on social media and has developed a lasting friendship.

“I first learned about him [Dimitri] on TikTok in one of his videos that went viral,” Young said. “His career has changed and so many people know him and adore him, but he’s never changed as a person, and I find that so telling and so important. His impact has been something I can’t really explain.

“His music brings people together. When I met him, he was so kind-hearted and you could see how much he loved what he was doing.”

Four years ago in Jackson, Mississippi, Brittany Dodd said Reeves stole her heart.

“It was my first time seeing and meeting him,” Dodd said. “When I hear Dimitri, love comes to mind. He will leave ‘love’ as his legacy.”

Michael Jackson will return to theaters and IMAX on April 4, 2026, in the Lionsgate film “Michael,” starring Jaafar Jackson, the son of Jermaine Jackson.

New trailers for the film show the youngest member of The Jackson Five stepping away from the family he loves to pursue his own path.

Knowing that music has the ability to spread love and unity, Jackson pursues his own career.
