ABC’s medical drama Grey’s Anatomy is reportedly expected to temporarily shut down production this week. This comes in response to planned nationwide anti-ICE protests, according to a new report. The one-day pause comes as student-led groups organize coordinated walkouts across the country.

New report claims Grey’s Anatomy will pause production on Friday

ABC’s long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy is expected to halt filming for a day in response to nationwide protests planned for Friday, January 30, as per Deadline. The medical drama is expected to go dark on Friday, January 30, with production scheduled to restart the following day.

As per the publication’s source, the one-day pause was prompted after the show’s production team learned that significant number of crew members would not be reporting to work during the planned protests. As of now, there has been no confirmation that additional film or television productions will suspend work.

The planned demonstrations started from calls for a “national shutdown” issued by student organizations at the University of Minnesota. These include the Somali Student Association, Black Student Union and Graduate Labor Union.

The organizers’ website wrote, “The people of the Twin Cities have shown the way for the whole country – to stop ICE’s reign of terror, we need to SHUT IT DOWN. On Friday, January 30, join a nationwide day of no school, no work and no shopping. Vote NO to ICE funding.” The movement follows the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis. The shootings have escalated anti-ICE activism in the region.

While there has been no news on other Hollywood productions being affected, some cultural institutions have already adjusted their operations. The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles announced that both its Grand Avenue location and The Geffen Contemporary will close for the day.
