A team of police officers in New Westminster descended on a city parkade Monday, responding to what they believed was a man with a handgun.
The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) says an officer on patrol around 4 p.m. spotted a group of men on the second level of the Front Street parkade, one of whom was holding the suspected gun.
“The incident resulted in a significant police presence in and around the parkade,” the NWPD said Wednesday.
Police arrested four people and seized the gun, which, upon closer inspection, was found to be a replica.
“Officers also learned that the group had been filming a music video.”
The department describes the incident as “extremely reckless,” adding that officers needed more indication that it was a video shoot.
Police are urging the public to consider the dangers of replica guns.
“When police respond to any call involving a firearm, it is treated as legitimate until an investigation can determine otherwise.”
