This Coachella, it’s been all about the vintage. And Hailey Bieber may have just won the game on that one. Hosting her Rhode pop-up activation, the festival’s first lady brought the sunshine with a yellow Dior minidress from John Galliano’s famed reign as the house’s creative director.
The little silk slip, designed with a V neckline, clear straps, and pink lace detailing, made its debut on the Fall/Winter 1998 runway as part of an opulent, 1920s-meets-1990s collection inspired by Italian heiress Marchesa Casati. Bold color combinations and theatrical styling walked the runway, and this particular look was layered over a burnt-orange turtleneck and paired with a matching cap and brown belt. Bieber, however, wore it on its own—turning the autumnal number into a springtime look.
To find such a piece, the Rhode founder and her stylist, Dani Michelle, turned to Tab Vintage. Based in Los Angeles, the vintage curator specializes in archival fashion you “won’t find anywhere else,” sourcing ready-to-wear items, evening-wear, and even bridal looks from the past century. (A quick browse through their selection will have you drooling over rare Rudi Gernreich, Louis Vuitton by Marc Jacobs, and 90-year-old Schiaparelli.)
Bieber and Michelle accessorized the mini with a statement silver necklace, a name pendant from Alex Moss made custom in honor of baby Jack Blues. And for shoes, they went with metallic open-toe heels that caught the light as the woman of the hour soaked up the sun. Later, she headed to the Main Stage to watch her husband, Justin Bieber, perform his highly anticipated, incredibly nostalgic headlining set.
