A rising star on the Halifax music scene is hoping to take her career to the next level, beginning with a new song she co-wrote with one of America’s top producers.
Feelings, which was released on Friday, marks a defining moment for Lindsay Misiner and her career as a singer-songwriter.
After all, not only does it showcase Misiner’s bolder sound, but working on the track with renowned composer Shannon Sanders also gave her renewed confidence about her talent.
“He just walked right up to me and said I’m going to change your life and he did,” says Misiner about meeting the three-time Grammy Award winner at Nova Scotia Music Week a couple years ago.
She says after catching the attention of the music mogul with her personal branding at the conference, he showed up to her showcase and was impressed by her singing.
“I made these really, really cool posters (and) he just saw my poster and he was like, you’re that girl from the poster,” laughs Misiner. “I stepped up my visual branding and it actually made a difference, it actually worked.”
Soon after that meeting, Misiner went to Nashville to begin collaborating with the producer who has previously worked with the likes of John Legend, Jonny Lang, India.Aire and many others.
As a result, the pair crafted Feelings, a song that “explores the emotional cycles of love, relationships, and generational wounds that linger beneath the surface.”
For Misiner, the experience of working with a talented artist who has more than 25 years in the music industry, including serving as the executive director of creative at Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) in Nashville, was a incredible opportunity for growth.
“He has so much industry experience so just to learn from him and even like little vocal techniques or different ways of pronouncing or saying things, he really pushed me to expand my reach beyond my reach with my vocal ability,” says Misiner.
“As for the writing, two people coming together writing is always something that is healthy for any writer and he kind of helped me express myself in a way that I may not have done if I was by myself so it elevated my craft for sure.”
Their collaboration didn’t end with Feelings either. Misiner says the two co-wrote another song that she hopes to record and release in the coming months.
“I’m going to see what we can get done with that and I love Nashville,” admits Misiner. “The music scene is great, the people are great, the food is great so I just need an excuse to get back down there and hopefully Shannon gives me one.”
Before then however, Misiner has enough to keep her busy at home in Nova Scotia.
Later this month, she will be heading to Sydney for the East Coast Music Awards, where she’s nominated for two prizes, including breakthrough artist of the year and R&B/Soul release of the year for her 2025 song, I Saw an Angel.
She says she will also perform Feelings with Shannon Sanders at a showcase during the May 20-24 event.
