Prince Harry and William have been estranged for years, with the Prince of Wales even taking aim at his brother during a visit with Army Air Corps soldiers.
Tensions started to rise between the pair when Harry and Meghan Markle left the royal family in 2020. Their relationship worsened, however, following the release of Harry’s bombshell memoir, Spare.
In the book, the Duke of Sussex accused William of grabbing him by the collar before pushing him to the floor during one explosive argument. He also criticized William’s wife, Kate Middleton. Former royal butler Grant Harrold has opened up about the warring brothers and admitted they weren’t always like this.
“The relationship between William and Harry was as close as it could be; they were best friends, and they were very close to the point that they did everything together,” Harrold told The Express US.
He continued, “When they were at Highgrove, they would go and see their friends together, they would go off to the pub, they would even go clubbing together. When Catherine came along, they became the ‘fab three’.”
He told us, “I used to witness if Harry was a little bit out of line or naughty, then William would be a traditional older brother and keep him in line. He was always supportive of Harry, but there were no signs or indicators.
“If you said to me that this would happen, then I would have never believed it.”
Harrold’s comments come after William made an awkward comment while visiting Harry’s former regiment and engaging with the soldiers and their families.
William asked one soldier if he spent enough time with his loved ones before joking, “Some of them might not want to see you that much. It’s a mixed bag sometimes.”
