Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers, stars of the hit show Hart to Hart, recently came together to celebrate Wagner’s 96th birthday.
A photo shared on Wagner’s Instagram account shows the duo, who portrayed the married couple Jonathan and Jennifer Hart in the ABC mystery series, sharing a warm embrace in celebration of the Austin Powers actor’s recent birthday.
The caption accompanying the photo read: “When Jonathan and Jennifer reunite, it’s always something special. Thank you, Stefanie, for the beautiful birthday visit.”
In Hart to Hart, Wagner and Powers played Jonathan and Jennifer, a wealthy couple leading a glamorous jet-set lifestyle, often finding themselves acting as unpaid detectives to solve crimes they inadvertently became involved in.
The popular series aired from 1979 to 1984, after which Wagner and Powers reprised their roles for eight television movies between 1993 and 1996.
Their off-screen friendship has spanned decades, with Powers reflecting on how they leaned on each other following the tragic deaths of their respective partners, William Holden and Natalie Wood, within weeks of each other in November 1981 due to a fall and drowning, respectively.
Speaking to Fox News Digital in 2024, the 83-year-old actress shared: “We did – we leaned on each other for support. And we also understood that we had committed to doing a television series. It had to go on.
“The show had to go on, and no one would’ve understood that more than the partners we both lost.
“It was a very difficult time. We were held up by a lot of wonderful people and friends, some mutual friends and some on each side of the coin.
“And RJ (Wagner) had daughters. He also had children to keep supporting… emotionally. So it was a complicated and difficult time.”
Wood’s enigmatic death has sparked considerable debate, and Robert was designated as a “person of interest” by authorities in 2018 after it was determined that he was the final individual to see his wife prior to her disappearance.
In a preview segment from Natalie Wood: Death in Dark Water, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant John Corin revealed to CBS’s 48 Hours: “As we’ve investigated the case over the last six years, I think he’s [Wagner’s] more of a person of interest now.
“I mean, we know now that he was the last person to be with Natalie before she disappeared … I haven’t seen him tell the details that match all the other witnesses in this case. I think he’s constantly changed his story a little bit. And his version of events just doesn’t add up.”
