MLGW shares tips on how to prepare your home for winter storm

Memphis is under a Winter Storm Watch as snow and ice are projected to come through the region this weekend. Here’s how to protect your home.

With a snowstorm hitting Memphis, many prepared for a week of snow by grocery shopping and getting their homes ready, but entertainment is the key to a proper snow-in.

While you are snowed in and unable to enjoy the city’s beauty, there are movies to watch that showcase the beauty that is Memphis. This list, though short, primarily focuses on films that are relatively easy to stream that were filmed in Memphis, so no, the Elvis movie from 2022 will not be on this list.

Here are some Memphis-based films available for streaming over the snowy weekend.

Mystery Train (1989)

“Mystery Train” is a 1989 film set in Memphis that mixes stories featuring foreign characters, all set on one night.

The first story, “Far from Yokohama,” shows a Japanese couple on a cultural journey. The second story, “A Ghost,” centers on an Italian widow who gets stuck in the city overnight. The third story, “Lost in Space,” follows a newly single, jobless Englishman and his unwilling companions as they navigate the night.

These stories connect through a rundown hotel managed by a night clerk and his messy bellboy, the song “Blue Moon” by Elvis Presley, and a gunshot.

Watch on: Prime Video or Apple TV

The Firm (1993)

This 1993 film features a young lawyer who takes a job at a small but well-known law firm in Memphis, only to discover that many of the firm’s clients are involved in illegal activities. The firm helps clients launder money from the mob, get away with crimes, and even murder partners who might expose them. When the FBI investigates the lawyer’s coworkers, he finds himself in a tough situation, trying to protect both his life and his freedom.
