Hikaru Utada has released a new single titled ‘PAPPAPARADISE’, accompanied by an official music video on YouTube.
The track serves as the new ending theme for long-running anime Chibi Maruko-chan, and also features in commercials for Japanese green tea brand Ayataka. A 7-inch vinyl edition follows on June 24th.
Tomokazu Yamada directs the music video, having previously worked with Utada on the videos for ‘Naniirodemonai Hana (A Flower of No Color)’, ‘Gold ~Mata Au Hi Made~’, and ‘Mine or Yours’. In the new video, Utada plays a taxi driver who clearly enjoys the job, dancing and singing with passengers to lift their spirits along the way. Min Tanaka, Tokio Emoto, Kiyohiko Shibukawa, Junko Asano, and KONO all appear as passengers.
The single is available in Dolby Atmos spatial audio on Apple Music. Utada also appeared on J-POP Now Radio via Apple Music and on New Music Wednesday (Podcast Edition) via Spotify to coincide with the single’s release on May 6th.
Alongside the new single’s vinyl release, two of Utada’s English-language albums, ‘Exodus’ and ‘This Is The One’, will also receive remastered reissues on the same day. Both come on vinyl, including limited colour variants, and as Japan-exclusive 2CD SHM-CD pressings, with lyrics and translations included.
